Saturday 10th June
for 10-14 year olds - Fee €10
In this two hour workshop led by Irish Book Award-winning author Anna Carey and inspired by the Eugeen van Mieghem: Port Life exhibition, participants will take artwork as their inspiration to create stories (and pictures, for those who want to draw as well as write) of their own. The children will each choose their favourite picture from the exhibition and take part in a number of writing exercises inspired by it – what’s the story behind the image? What led up to the incident depicted in it – and what might happen next? What’s happening outside the frame? The workshop will encourage children to look at art in a whole new way – and have fun coming up with their own versions of the stories being told on the gallery walls.
Anna Carey is a journalist, scriptwriter and the author of five acclaimed novels for young people, including The Real Rebecca, which won the Senior Children's Book of the Year prize at the 2011 Irish Book Awards, and The Making of Mollie, which was shortlisted for the same prize in 2016.
