In 2017 the Great Music in Irish Houses Festival’s Dublin Musical Saunter honours two musical luminaries from Dublin, each celebrating a significant zero birthday this year; Veronica Dunne, the doyenne of musical life in Ireland at 90 and distinguished pianist Finghin Collins who celebrates his 40th birthday. From noon to night, music lovers will have an opportunity to salute these two distinguished artists who have made, and continue to make an indelible mark on Irish musical life. Adding richness to the celebration of these magnificent zero milestones, the vibrant Anglo-Irish Carducci Quartet have been invited to participate on the occasion of their own zero birthday – 20 years of exceptional music-making together.
Dearbhla Collins (pianist) will accompany a number of young singers from Veronica Dunne’s current stable at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and in turn they will share the platform with former students now enjoying busy performing careers.
Songs by Nadia Boulanger, Alma Mahler, Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara Schumann, Ilse Weber and Irish composers Elaine Agnew, Rhona Clarke and Bernadette Marmion performed by Sarah Shine, soprano; Gemma Ni Bhriain, mezzo-soprano; Patrick Hyland, tenor and Robert McAllister, bass baritone.
The Dublin Musical Saunter continues in the Coach House of Dublin Castle with concerts at 3.00 pm and 7.00 pm
