Summer is the season for strawberries and madrigals. The National Chamber Choir of Ireland’s July program Madrigalia mixes a selection of English madrigals from around 1600 with more recent imitations of the style, performing at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane on Saturday 23 July at 3pm.
The programme features the early 17th century works of John Wilbye & Thomas Tomkins as well as 20th century explorations from composers such as Michael Tippett and Thea Musgrave. Also included are the works from the lesser known 19th century revival of early music with Shakespeare settings by George MacFarren and three madrigalian partsongs by Pearsall. The program will be completed with a charming glee by William Beale (also a composer of self-styled 'madrigals') and a double-choir setting (echoing the scoring of Tippett's anthem) of John Milton's 'On Time' [1645].
Admission €14/ €12 conc.
Please note that this concert takes place on Saturday 23rd July and not on a Sunday as normal.
