Over two hundred photographs taken by the American wildlife photographer and writer, Peter Beard (b. 1938) were found in the Reece Mews studio. Some of these are spectacularly beautiful images of wildlife and others are self-portrait photographs of Beard. Bacon first met Beard at the Clermont Club in London in 1965 at the launch of Beard's book on the destruction of wildlife in Africa, The End of the Game. Beard's aerial photographs of dead elephants particularly impressed the artist. Bacon went on to produce at least nine portraits of Beard.
