In Memory of Oliver Dowling

It is with deep regret that we share the news that Oliver Dowling passed away yesterday morning. Oliver was a committed former Board Member of Hugh Lane Gallery and chaired our Acquisitions, Loans and Exhibitions committee with keen insight and knowledge.

He established the  Oliver Dowling Gallery 1971- 1995 which was one of the leading contemporary art galleries in Ireland. It was Oliver who brought Joseph Beuys to Ireland. He was member of the ROSC committee and in the late 1990’s Visual Arts Officer for the Arts Council.

Following on his  retirement from the Hugh Lane Gallery board, Oliver was a regular visitor to the gallery and he will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences go to his partner Alan and to his family. May he rest in peace.
