Traveller Community Arts Day

This celebration of Traveller culture at Hugh Lane Gallery on 1 May 2025 showcased creative projects by Traveller organisations Brú Bhríde, Tuam, Tullamore Traveller’s Women’s Shed – Offaly Traveller Movement, Unpacking Traveller Mental Health – Traveller Primary Health Care Projects in the Eastern Region, The Wheel of Time, Southside Traveller Action Group- through the display of objects and short talks. Artist Brian Maguire led a visit to his exhibition La Grande Illusion and there were film screenings of ‘Being Put Back Together’ by film-maker Dave McDonagh, whose work was on view in Bafushia, and ‘My Kind of People’ by film-maker Ella Louise Ward. The Traveller Community Arts Day was presented in collaboration with Pavee Point Traveller and Roma Centre and was part of our programme in tandem with Bafushia. Bafushia at Hugh Lane Gallery (29 January – 8 June 2025) was curated and organised as part of HLG’s Art Education programme (Jessica O’Donnell, Head of Education and Community Outreach, Hugh Lane Gallery) in collaboration with artist Séamus Nolan and Pavee Point Traveller & Roma Centre.
