Hugh Lane Gallery and Light House Cinema are delighted to announce our 2026 film screening partnership entitled HLG Presents: Artist Cinema. The programme features a quarterly film screening hosted in Light House Cinema curated by Alice Butler, Co-Director and Co-Founder of AEMI.
This collaboration is part of HLG’s citywide Explore & Learn programming and is a continuation of HLG’s ongoing curated film screenings with Butler.
The first screening is on Tuesday, 10 Feb at 6pm and will feature the premiere of ‘The Sea Inside Us’, by Ruth E Lyons and Colm Hogan; and ‘Last Things’ by Deborah Stratman. These films delve deep below surface levels to consider ancient geological pasts and speculative futures and make full use of the dark and secluded nature of the cinema space.
The dates for the following three quarterly screenings will be announced in due course. Follow Hugh Lane Gallery and Light House Cinema on Instagram and Facebook for updates and sign up to HLG’s newsletter at hughlane.ie.
On the partnership, Alice Butler, Curator of the screenings says:
“It is hugely exciting to launch a new screening partnership between Hugh Lane Gallery and Lighthouse Cinema by bringing together films by two highly accomplished artists. It is fitting that these are both premiere screenings with Irish artist Ruth E Lyons’ extraordinary ‘The Sea Inside Us’ (2025) and U.S. filmmaker Deborah Stratman’s ‘Last Things’ (2023) both being presented in an Irish cinema for the first time with Ruth attending for a conversation about her work after the programme. This will be a very special, highly cinematic event not to be missed by visual arts and cinema-going audiences alike.”
On working with Light House Cinema, Jessica O’Donnell, Head of Education & Community Outreach says:
‘We are excited to partner with Light House Cinema on our curated film screenings programme to engage with audiences in a new and dynamic location as part of our citywide Explore & Learn programmes.’
