Hugh Lane Gallery TY Programme 2026

A curated education programme that allows transition year students gain an insight into the operations of the gallery.

Following an Open Call, our Hugh Lane Gallery offsite Transition Year Programme took place from Tuesday 3 February – Friday 13 February 2026, 10am-2.30pm and Wednesdays 25 February, 4 March and 11 March 2026, 2-4pm in our art room at the Seán O’Casey Community Centre and other cultural locations around the city including artist Anca Danila‘s studio in this film.

During this eleven-day course students gained an insight into the operations of the gallery including exhibitions, collections, education, conservation, marketing through illustrated talks with gallery curators, artists and lecturers. They discovered more about some of the amazing artworks in the collection through Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) discussions and illustrated talks on social, artistic and political innovators such as Sarah Cecilia Harrison and Sarah Purser. Assignments included creative writing inspired by delving into the Gallery’s online collection while practical art workshops included sketchbook making, lino-printmaking, life drawing, collaborative textile art, soundscape art and more. We are very grateful to all of the students for their curiosity and a willingness to participate, their active discussions, enthusiastically completing their assignments and their immense creativity!

Facilitated by Tori Boccarossa and co-curated with Jessica O’Donnell, Head of Education and Community Outreach, Hugh Lane Gallery.
