We were very saddened to hear of the passing of Helen Comerford, esteemed artist. We send our sincere sympathies to her family and friends.
Helen was a founding member of the a collective of artists ‘Na Cailleacha’ who’s work ‘Child’s Play’ was exhibited in the ‘Bones in the Attic’ exhibition in Hugh Lane Gallery 2022 pictured below.
Also pictured below is an artwork by Helen from Hugh Lane Gallery’s collection, ‘Untitled’. Purchased in 1981, this is an abstract mixed media composition made up of torn strips of painted paper with small cardboard pieces inserted perpendicular to the surface inside two tears to create a three dimensional effect. The overall colour is metallic black and the surface resembles the bark of a damaged tree.
