Dublin City Council’s Hugh Lane Gallery is an art gallery in Dublin, Ireland renowned for its extensive Collection of Modern and Contemporary art, its regular Temporary Exhibitions, a thriving Education & Community Outreach Programme and Conservation studio. It is open to the public (Tuesday – Sunday) with Free Admission. School and tour groups can book in tours of the gallery. We also run a number of events, talks and workshops in the gallery.

The European Union has made a law to protect information about you. This means any of our staff who have information about you will have to keep it private and protect it for you and ensure it is not stored for longer than necessary.

Personal data

Personal data is information about someone that might help identify you.

This might include:

•          Name

•          Contact Information

•          Information for ticket registration (workshops, tours, events)

•          School name/Teachers/Coordinators Email (for booking school group tours).

•          Visitors to our digital channels

•          Devices signed up to our free Wi-Fi service

•          Job and volunteering applicants

Children’s privacy

We are committed to protecting the privacy of children. In Ireland and in relation to data protection, a child is any person under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data of children without parental/guardian consent.

Why we collect information about you

To register you in our system, we require your information if you have enrolled in an art programme, talk, tour, event, newsletter, or workshop.

The Legal Basis for processing your personal data

The Law is called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)/Data Protection Act 2018.

  • Hugh Lane Gallery must let you know why they are using information about you.
  • They must only use this information for these purposes and nothing else.
  • They must make sure the information about you is correct. You have the right to amend incorrect information on your record.
  • They must not keep information about you for longer than is needed. We abide by all retention schedules as set out in the National Retention Policy for Local Authority Records
  • Anonymised data may be used for research and statistical purposes to help improve our service. Anonymised data has been stripped of any personally identifiable information so it cannot be traced back to any individual. It may be used to analyse trends, conduct studies, and gather insights to enhance the quality, effectiveness, and overall experience of the service we offer.

How do we keep information about you safe and secure?

Only authorised staff who are required to process your data have access to your information. This is limited to those who require it to provide a service such as processing a tour booking or sending a loan. All personal data is password protected and stored on our secure server.

All personal data is password protected and encrypted to prevent unauthorised access. Your personal data is stored on secure servers that are protected by advanced firewalls.

How do I make a data request?
