CLEARINGS IN THE SKY
Soprano Catherine Redding and pianist Yonit Kosovske perform Lili Boulanger’s song cycle Clairières dans le ciel (Clearings in the Sky). The thirteen song texts are drawn from Tristesses (Sorrows), a collection of twenty-four poems written by Francis Jammes (1868–1938). The songs are saturated with symbolism, nostalgic reflection, and intense longing for love through a rich compositional language the interweaves Impressionism with Neo-Romanticism. The programme will also feature two piano solos: Lili Boulanger’s Prelude in D-flat, and Vers la vie nouvelle (Towards a new life) by her older sister Nadia Boulanger.
