  • Inspiration

This concert is inspired by Dina Ryan, a young women who left this world, almost a year to the day on the 11th May 2022. Whilst she died from cancer, she remained extremely positive and creatively active right to the end of her short life of 35 years. During her last months, in both the hospital and the hospice she drew pictures, wrote poetry, composed music and inspired all around her with her joie de vivre. Dina was an undergraduate clarinet student of Paul’s for 4 years (2014-18) having already completed a degree in Architecture.

Dina left us a beautiful collection of poems and a composition for piano with video that she collaborated on with her brother Sean. In today’s programme we will feature an extract from this audio/visual work, some of Dina’s poetry and also a new composition by Kenneth Edge inspired by Dina’s memory. We will also play a selection of tunes and pieces to uplift and encourage us to celebrate the beauty and preciousness of life.
