Culture Club Online

Friday, 22 May 2026, 1pm

Join artist Michelle Hall for an illustrated talk, exploring contemporary art in the Hugh Lane Gallery Collection, focusing on Isabel Nolan’s ‘Rings of Saturn’ and wider practice. Born in Dublin in and currently based here, Isabel Nolan works in a range of media that includes painting, drawing, sculpture, animation and most recently, embroidery and fabric hangings. Her works are usually modest in scale and focus instead on exploring kaleidoscopic array of wonders and feelings such as loneliness, tenderness, frustration, fear and hope. This lecture will explore the artwork of other contemporary artists in the collection using Nolan’s work as a starting point, and discussing them in relation to her practice.

Isabel Nolan is representing Ireland at the 2026 Venice Biennale.

Free, advance booking required. This is an online talk. A link will be distributed prior to the event.

This Culture Club talk is programmed by HLG in collaboration with DCC CCC.
