Hugh Lane Gallery and Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire

From 2024, we began working with Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire, a local primary school and our neighbour on Parnell Square. Between 2024 and 2025, each and every class had the opportunity to visit the gallery for sketching tours and workshops. Every new season, a new artist and theme was explored!

In the school year 25/26, as the students began their transition to a new school building, we collaborated on a new project, the Art City Adventure. Most recently, we had the chance to visit the new school and bring art to the classroom!

We can’t wait to see what each new brings as we make our way through all the wonderful artists in Hugh Lane Gallery’s collection!

  • Art City Adventure

We are delighted to continue our collaboration with Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire with a specially designed Art City Adventure Trail designed by artist Megan Scott to assist the children as they moved in November 2025 from their old school in Parnell Square to their new school in Cathal Brugha Street. This fun, interactive art trail highlights the sounds and sights of the city streets and can be viewed here HLG GSCM-ArtAdventure FINAL

  • Hugh Lane Gallery and Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire 2024-25

During the school year 2024-25 we welcomed children from every class in Gaelscoil Coláiste Mhuire to the Hugh Lane Gallery for multiple artist-led visits to explore a different artist-in-focus each time through discussion, drawing and making. To date, the work of Harry Clarke, Edgar Degas, Francis Bacon, Julian Opie, Mark Dion and Ailbhe Ní Bhriain has been creatively explored by the children.

  • Gaelscoil Cholaiste Mhuire 2026

In 2026, we have been welcomed into Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire during a period of refurbishment in the gallery. We were excited to explore creative opportunities and artist-led workshops in their new school space.

Niamh Lawlor facilitated a workshop inspired by the art of Julian Opie. This workshop looked at the theme of moving forward as 6th class begin their transition from primary to secondary school!

Congratulations to the graduating class of 2026!
