Exploring Primate by Daphne Wright for people with a visual impairment
Friday 5 September 2025, 2-4pm
Led by audio-describer Fala Buggy and violinist Jane Hackett, this in-person salon session is a collaborative exploration of how audio-description and sound can intertwine to provide multisensory access for blind and partially sighted audiences to engage with visual art.
Responding to the artwork Primate by Daphne Wright which was recently acquired by the Hugh Lane Gallery, this immersive session will experiment with words, touch, vibration and sound to describe and interpret the sculpture. Driven by an understanding that creative expression is inherently multisensory and subjective, Fala and Jane will combine audio-description and sound to reveal an enriched interpretation of the artwork, exploring artistic meaning, multiple perspectives and storytelling through sound.
This in-person event is presented as part of Hugh Lane Gallery’s Citywide Salon series. This session is researching creative access and multisensory engagement and will include opportunity for feedback, collective reflection and to socialise over tea and coffee.
