Hugh Lane Culture Club

Join Anne Cormican as she explores Hugh Lane’s bold and impassioned vision for the development of art in Ireland. Through images of works chosen by Lane for a gallery of modern art and those which continue to enter the collection, in addition to works resulting from his appointment as Director of the National Gallery of Ireland, Lane’s singular and ongoing contribution to art in Ireland will be examined. This illustrated talk will highlight some of the artworks which still make up today’s permanent collection as therefore will be helpful to first time visitors of Hugh Lane Gallery. While this talk will be particularly interesting to those unfamiliar with the founding of the Hugh Lane Gallery, it will also be of interest to recurring visitors too.
