HLG and Pathways

We are continuing to work with the Pathways Centre, an outreach initiative of the City of Dublin Education and Training Board (City of Dublin ETB) Educational Service to Prisons which offers support to former prisoners in the period after release.

Our most recent iteration of creative poetry writing sessions led by poet Grace Wilentz have been taking place offsite in the Pathways Centre and are building on sessions which previously took place in the Hugh Lane Gallery’s education space to explore abstract concepts like ‘love’, ‘death’, ‘self’, ‘soul’  and translating them into images.

Creative approaches include  exercises asking participants to write down all the images they associate with a particular word before using this list to build an original poem; and creative exercises focusing on recalling a dream that has lingered in the memory, translating its imagery and trajectory into a poem and reflecting on symbolism and colour.

This project is part of our HLG offsite Explore & Learn citywide education programmes.
