Join us for an illustrated talk as part of the Basic Talks programme.

Join us for a talk with artist Amie Egan, whose practice currently involves creating costumes for visual art performances, music performances, dance, theatre, and short films.

Amie Egan is an emerging costume and textile artist, designer, and maker based in The Complex Studios, Dublin. She received her formal training at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) where she graduated with a BDes (Hons) Degree in Fashion Design. Since graduating in 2014 she has worked in the fashion industry in fashion capitals such as Dublin, London, and New York. Her clothing brand, AMIE EGAN, centres around handmade outerwear garments inspired by changing landscapes and weather conditions. Her collections have been showcased and sold in Brown Thomas, Fabiani Boutique, and Dunnes Stores.

Since 2021 Amie has shifted her focus from fashion design-based work to an art practice. She has been collaborating with a number of visual artists to create costumes for visual art performances, music performances, dance, theatre, and short films. She works predominantly in the mediums of textile, costume, and prop making. She makes textile garments to enhance art performances in art gallery settings. Amie’s approach to costume design is not only artistic but also informed by a deep appreciation for cultural, historical, and literary contexts. She draws inspiration from mythology, literature, contemporary fashion, and the history of dress to create costumes that are not only visually stunning but also infused with layers of meaning, and rich in narrative and symbolic elements.

She has collaborated with artists such as Isadora Epstein (visual artist), Eimear Walshe (visual artist), Sonia Shiel (visual artist), Jessie Keenan (dance artist) and Frank Sweeney (filmmaker). Her work has been shown at the Venice Biennale, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), the Hugh Lane Gallery, NCAD Gallery, Visual Carlow, the Mermaid Arts Centre, the Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI), the Cork Film Festival, and Club Hybrid in Austria.

Free, book or come on the day subject to availability.
