Art Appreciation Course: More Power to you! Art and Activism from Sarah Purser to Brian Maguire

Our illustrated talks presented in conjunction with UCD Lifelong Learning will explore the fascinating life and art of pioneering Irish artist Sarah Purser, whose work is the subject of an exhibition at the Hugh Lane Gallery. From portraiture to her role in founding An Túr Gloine, the Friends of the National Collections of Ireland and more, the wider context of Purser’s life and art will be explored. We will also explore the paintings of Brian Maguire whose work will be on exhibition Focusing on a period of intense productivity for the artist, 2007–2024, this exhibition appraises Maguire’s activism in human rights and his efforts to document the shape-shifting nature of war with its far-reaching impact on the poor and our environment. These fascinating illustrated talks will be delivered by Dr Anne Cormican, Yseult O’Driscoll, Dr Hannah Baker, Dr David Caron, Artist Claire Halpin, Artist Gareth Kennedy and Aoife Convery.
