Join us for a talk with artist Francis Fay.
Francis Fay is a Dublin based Irish artist, specialising in performance art. Born in Finglas 1968, he attended Park Lane College in Leeds as a mature student in the mid 1990s, later he received his degree in Fine art from DIT, Dublin. After graduating from NCAD in 2015, with an MFA in Art the Digital World, Fay co founded Livestock Performance Art Platform, the platform highlights new Irish performance art practice. Originally based in The Market Studios of Dublin 1, this popular event now runs from MART Gallery and Studios, Rathmines. Francis has performed at Dublin Live Art Festival and was Co Director of the Festival in 2017.
Commissions and performances include: ‘Shall We Dance’ for Live Collision International Festival 2014,‘The Singing Flame’ Future Histories, as part of the Arts Council programme ART:2016, Your Self Made Super Human, Wexford Arts Centre, 2019. Fay was commissioned to produce and curate FLIKKERS: COME AS YOU WERE, as part of Age & Opportunities ‘Bealtaine Festival’ 2022. A series of events remembering and celebrating FLIKKERS Disco, part of The Hirschfeld Centre, and the people who attended it. It ran for two decades and was the only exclusive LGBTQI safe space in the country.
In November 2022, Fay performed at The Irish Contemporaries Exhibition, CIACLA, Los Angeles. Fay has also performed his work The Pilgrim at Platforma Revolver, Lisbon, ‘Marking Time/ A Love Letter for PAB, Norway and at Butch Queen, First Time in Drag, Stroud Festival, UK.
After a decade of performing, Fay’s ’ artistic practice is now shared in equal measure between video and performance work. His recent video Queering The Landscape sees Fay, using costume and mask, reframing tired idyllic narratives of body in landscape, moving away from ownership of the land and focusing on the symbiotic relationship that draws attention to our shamanic past.

Curated by Basic Space in partnership with Hugh Lane Gallery, BASIC TALKS is a platform for lectures, workshops, presentations, and performances. Speakers include artists, curators, writers, and critics who will generate discourse on producing, framing and exhibiting art. BASIC TALKS is a collaboration between Basic Space and the Hugh Lane Gallery, exploring alternatives in the dissemination of contemporary art and its discourses.
