Join us for a talk with artist Laura Fitzgerald.

Laura Fitzgerald is a visual artist working in drawing, painting, installation, video, and text. She is graduate of both the National College of Art & Design, Dublin, Ireland and Royal College of Art, London, UK. She is a recipient of the Visual Arts Bursary Award (Arts Council of Ireland) for 2022-23 and received the Golden Fleece award in 2020. Her work looks at different aspects of uncertainty, through exploring narratives within the contemporary art world, rurality and land use.

Recent exhibitions include: This Rural at The Mill, Lismore Castle Arts, Right-of-way at Wexford Art Centre (as part of the Wexford Emergent Award), A Growing Enquiry: Art, Agriculture, reconciling values at the RHA gallery March 2022, I have made a place, at the Crawford Art Gallery Art, Cork City from June 2021 and the 39th EVA International with Fantasy Farming, 2020, at Limerick City Gallery of Art.

She has previously attended the International Studio and Curatorial Program residency in New York, USA, and has recently completed a three-month residency (AIR Spring 2023) at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, in Omaha, Nebraska, USA.

Basic Talks is a series of talks with leading contemporary practitioners, taking place at the Hugh Lane Gallery. Curated by Basic Space in partnership with Hugh Lane Gallery, BASIC TALKS is a platform for lectures, workshops, presentations, and performances. Speakers include artists, curators, writers, and critics who will generate discourse on producing, framing and exhibiting art. BASIC TALKS is a collaboration between Basic Space and the Hugh Lane Gallery, exploring alternatives in the dissemination of contemporary art and its discourses.
