Join us for a talk with artist Noel Hensey. His art practice is concerned with philosophical exploration balanced with some humour. He is a multi-disciplinary conceptual artist working primarily in; photography, sculpture, sound, video and installation. His practice is inspired by the Buddhist practice of meditation, the stand-up comedy of Stewart Lee and Steven Wright and by conceptual art, specifically the work of Marcel Duchamp.

Noel Hensey (b. Dublin) currently lives and works in Co. Kildare, Ireland. He is a graduate of both the PG Dip and MA Fine Art courses from Chelsea College of Arts, London. Selected solo exhibitions include: ‘Openness’, 36 Gallery, Newcastle Upon Tyne, 2023; ‘Verloren Und Gefunden’, SomoS Art House, Berlin, 2021; ‘Homage’, Peak, London, 2020 and ‘So You’re Going To Die’, Eight Gallery, Dublin, 2017. His work is part of the collections of Unit 1 Gallery, London, SomoS Art House, Berlin, the Office of Public Works (O.P.W.), Dublin as well as numerous national and international private collections. His awards include; The Visual Artists Ireland (VAI) ‘Experiment! Award’, 2023; The Arts Council of Ireland’s ‘Agility Award’, 2023, 2022 and ‘Visual Arts Bursary Award’, 2020; Kildare Co. Co. Arts Service ‘Emerging Visual Artist Solo Exhibition Bursary Award’, 2011 and the Chelsea Arts Club Trust’s ‘Special Projects Award’, 2009.

Basic Talks is a series of talks with leading contemporary practitioners, taking place at the Hugh Lane Gallery. Curated by Basic Space in partnership with Hugh Lane Gallery, BASIC TALKS is a platform for lectures, workshops, presentations, and performances. Speakers include artists, curators, writers, and critics who will generate discourse on producing, framing and exhibiting art. BASIC TALKS is a collaboration between Basic Space and the Hugh Lane Gallery, exploring alternatives in the dissemination of contemporary art and its discourses.
