‘Dublin should certainly see Bacon’s work’: The 1965 Francis Bacon exhibition at the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art with Jessica O’Donnell
Drawing on original archival material researched by Jessica O’Donnell and recently published in her article in Artefact, the Journal of the Irish Association of Art Historians (IAAH), this talk will bring to light a hitherto unexplored but fascinating moment in the artistic and cultural life of Dublin in the mid way point of the 1960s by recounting how the first ever exhibition of Francis Bacon’s paintings in Dublin came to fruition and how the exhibition was received in the city of his birth.
Fee: €5, incl tea/coffee tickets available on day from Reception.
