Bring your little one along to Merrion Square, for a non-verbal storytelling workshop for 0-3 Year Olds with artist Tamao Oka!

This workshop is part of our Hugh Lane Gallery’s Explore & Learn offsite programmes during the Gallery’s period of temporary closure.

Bring your little one on a playful creative journey with artist Tamao Oka, as part of the Dublin International Literature Festival in Merrion Square.

This gentle workshop for children aged 0–3 and their parents invites families to explore storytelling without words. Using simple objects, fabric, sound and gesture, we will create playful stories together. Through songs, hand-play games and fabric play, parents and children will explore rhythm, imagination and connection in a relaxed and joyful space.

Booking essential and space is limited. One ticket gives access to one child AND one parent/guardian and parents remain with their children throughout. Booking link to follow.

Location:
Merrion Square, Dublin 2

Bio

Tamao Oka is a Japanese-born artist-educator and storyteller based in Ireland. Originally trained as a pharmacist, her path has gently unfolded toward education, art, and the world of story. For over a decade, she has nurtured warm, imaginative spaces for young children through a baby and toddler group and a small Japanese children’s library.

She received her Diploma in Steiner Waldorf Early Years Education in 2016, and its rhythms quietly shape her work. In schools, galleries, and libraries, she weaves handcraft, visual art, and storytelling into shared creative experiences.

She also continues her exploration of narrative through storytelling study groups in Japan, while in Ireland she shares stories through kamishibai and puppet theatre—offering moments of connection across cultures, languages, and generations.
