Children discussing A Peasant Woman by Edgar Degas

A visit to the Gallery is a very enjoyable way of introducing your class to works of art.

The Hugh Lane Gallery has an excellent collection of Irish and international artists from the mid 19th century to the present day and the collection includes painting, sculpture, film and digital works and more. We encourage pupils to take the opportunity to look and respond and have their say during their visit.

Guided tours of the collection and temporary exhibitions cost €30 per group. At least two weeks notice in advance is requested in advance of a proposed date when booking a guided tour.

A highlights tour could include a visit to the stained glass room, Impressionist masterpieces by Monet, Degas or Manet, the Francis Bacon studio and works by contemporary Irish and international artists. However, should you wish to look at particular artworks you can specify this when booking your tour and your guide will be informed. Check out our online collection to see which artworks are on view.

Subject to availability it is also possible to arrange a 1.5 hour Combined tour and artist-led workshop (€125 per group with a max of 20 pupils; all materials are provided) or a 50mins Sketching Tour (€45 per group, max 30 pupils). Please contact the gallery’s education department to discuss these options further.

Should you wish to book a guided tour for your class and to discuss possible themes and available dates, please contact Catherine Neville, or tel. 01 2225560.
