Are you curious and have an enthusiasm for creatively exploring the Hugh Lane Gallery? Do you have a willingness to participate, actively contribute to discussions and complete assignments? Our next Open Call for applications to participate in our annual TY course starting in January 2025 will be in autumn.
- Hugh Lane Transition Year Programme takes place annually in January.
During our annual TY two week course taking place in January, students gain an insight into the operations of the gallery through illustrated discussions with gallery curators exploring exhibitions, collections, conservation and education as well as talks by artists and lecturers.
They discover more about some of the amazing artworks in the collection through Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) discussions, illustrated talks on social, artistic and political innovators such as Sarah Cecilia Harrison, Augusta, Lady Gregory and Lady Mary Heath, as well as exploring themes arising from our current exhibition Andy Warhol Three Times Out.
Assignments have included creative writing inspired by the delving into the Gallery’s online collection while practical art workshops have included printmaking, sketching, pinhole photography, creating a soundscape inspired by artworks and the gallery spaces and more. No prior practical art making experience is necessary.
Students do not have to be studying art or intending to study art to participate in our TY courses. What is required is curiosity and a willingness to participate and we are very grateful to all of the students for their active participation in discussions and enthusiastically completing their assignments!
